Plank paving, lush planting
A deliberately restrained palette of textural, primarily green plants is used to create a pared-back simplicity within this modern garden design in New Barn, Kent. Planting pockets have been cut into the contrasting textural granite plank paving, unlocking the terrace and further softening the space and immersing the owner in cool, calm planting. The plants include Euonymus, Hakonechloa and Allium amplectens ‘Graceful Beauty’. Slatted linear boundary fences have been used to give the garden a contemporary feel.
This modern garden design was a finalist in the Society of Garden Designers Awards, Small Residential Garden, 2019.
