Championing the use of shrubs. 🌿

Here’s a little Monday inspiration — and one of the shrubs that regularly features in our planting plans and can be found in many of our completed gardens.

Viburnum plicatum ‘Mariesii’ is a real favourite. A beautiful deciduous shrub with elegant, tiered horizontal branches and delicate lace-cap flowers that appear in late spring.

One of the things I particularly love about it is its timing. It flowers ahead of many of the more familiar summer shrubs, such as roses and hydrangeas, helping to bring interest and structure to the garden earlier in the season.

Shrubs can sometimes be overlooked in favour of perennials, but they are such an important part of our planting designs. They provide structure, longevity and seasonal interest, while giving the planting around them a strong framework to work from.

And this one is definitely worth a place on the list. 🌿
