With the increasingly extreme summer temperatures and periods of drought we’re experiencing, harvesting rainwater has taken on a whole new importance in the garden.
In our Greencube Design garden, we’ve incorporated Corten steel troughs to collect rainwater, which we use to water our vegetables and herbs, as well as the many pots around the garden. It’s a simple way of making better use of a valuable natural resource and reducing our reliance on mains water.
We’ve also added another layer of interest by introducing Common Water Crowfoot, Ranunculus aquatilis, which thrives in the water-filled troughs. I love the way these practical elements can become part of the overall design, adding both wildlife value and seasonal interest.
For me, good garden design is always about finding ways for beauty and practicality to work together. 🌿💧
